Cullompton Town Council has announced the completion of its Strategic Plan 2025–2028, a comprehensive roadmap for the town’s development over the next three years. This plan emphasises the Council’s commitment to transparency, community engagement, and sustainable development, setting out a clear vision for a sustainable, thriving, and evolving Cullompton. Developed through extensive community consultations and building on the successful Cullompton Neighbourhood Plan, the Strategic Plan outlines key initiatives to improve quality of life, support the local economy, and safeguard the town’s heritage for future generations. It is a living document that will be reviewed annually to ensure it continues to meet the community’s needs.
The Strategic Plan is organised around three key themes, each with specific projects and goals:
- A Sustainable Cullompton – focusing on traffic and transport improvements, sustainable housing development, and renewable energy projects. Initiatives under this theme include measures to calm traffic and reduce congestion, investment in active travel routes and electric vehicle charging stations, and promoting green building standards in new housing. These efforts aim to ensure the town grows responsibly while reducing its environmental footprint.
- A Thriving Community – supporting local businesses, promoting health and wellbeing, and enhancing leisure and social infrastructure. Projects include a “Buy Local” campaign to boost local shops, exploring new leisure facilities and sports amenities, and organizing health and wellness events. By strengthening the local economy and social services, the plan seeks to foster a healthier, more prosperous community for all residents.
- An Evolving Town – preserving heritage sites, revitalizing the town centre, and protecting green spaces. Plans involve restoring important historic buildings, launching a heritage trail, improving the town centre with pedestrian-friendly streets and vibrant markets, and expanding community gardens and tree-planting programs. This ensures Cullompton can embrace growth and modern needs while honoring its rich history and natural environment.
