The second new defibrillator is now in place and fully operational at the welfare facility in the Town’s Cemetery on Tiverton Road. It is recommended that no one should be further than 4 minutes from a defibrillator in the unfortunate situation where one is required. The Town Council are trying to fill these identified gaps in provision for our residents. From our research, those in the west of the town do not have as many Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) available and this is why a central location like the cemetery has been chosen. In the event of an emergency, please dial 999 to gain the access code for the cabinet.
To ensure access to this new site at any time of day, the gate to the cemetery is now open 24/7. This will allow access to the cabinet, if required, but will also allow anyone wishing to pay their respects to do so at any time with no restrictions.
Cllr Emma Buczkowski, ward member for St. Andrews and Deputy Town Mayor, who initially proposed the new AED to be installed said “I am really pleased that we have been able to identify a new location up Tiverton Road for the this AED to be fitted. This will serve the residents that do not live in the town centre in the event that this life saving equipment is needed. I am also pleased that the gate will now be open at all times for residents to be able to visit their loved ones when they wish.”
