Exciting Upgrades Begin at Upcott Field: New Fencing Installed as Part of Cullompton’s Community Enhancement Initiative
Cullompton Town Council is thrilled to announce the installation of brand-new fencing around the play area at Upcott Field, located next to St. Andrew’s School. This is just the next step in a series of exciting improvements designed to revitalise one of Cullompton’s much-loved community spaces following on from the new Bike Shelter delivered earlier in the year.
The upgraded fencing is part of a broader plan to enhance public parks across the town, with Tufty Park and Headweir Road Park set to receive similar improvements in the near future. These developments reflect the Council’s ongoing commitment to creating safe, enjoyable, and inclusive spaces for all residents.
In addition to the fencing, the Council has allocated £100,000 toward the next phase of the wider Upcott Field project, (a sketch can be seen below) with efforts underway to secure an additional £68,000 in grant funding. With a total investment of £168,000, the transformation of Upcott Field is expected to be completed next year subject to this additional funding, providing even more facilities and opportunities for residents to enjoy outdoor activities. If grant funding is not forthcoming, the Council will still proceed with plans, these may be phased though over a slightly longer timeframe.

This ambitious project follows an extensive community consultation where residents shared their vision for the future of Upcott Field. The upcoming improvements include an enhanced play area, tree planting, a new youth area, a scenic nature trail, and pathways circling the field with fitness-focused trim trails and outdoor gym equipment alongside it.
In November, Cullompton Town Council will host a Community Tree Planting event at Upcott Field, inviting residents of all ages to roll up their sleeves and help create a greener, healthier environment. This event will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone, including children, to play a hands-on role in shaping the future of their town. More details will be announced soon!
Councillor Spring, Town Mayor of Cullompton, shared: “We’re so pleased to see the next phase of this important project come to life. Upcott Field is a vital community hub, and these enhancements will make it even more welcoming for families, young people, and visitors. We look forward to continuing to work together with residents to create a space that truly reflects Cullompton’s vibrant spirit.”
